You can save someone’s life by using technology. There are still lots of medical advancements that need to be made in the field of food allergies but one piece of technology that has already helped is the Medical ID on Apple Health.
A Medical ID lets people access your critical medical information from the Lock screen, without needing your passcode. Create your ID on a iPhone that runs iOS 8 or later.
You can create your ID in the iPhone Health App.
To Create your ID:
- First of all, in settings open health and tap Medical ID > Edit.
- Enter information on your medical condition and allergies, your blood type and emergency contacts
- Turn on Show When Locked
If someone has had an accident check their Medical ID:
Do this even if the iPhone is locked by following the below steps:
- Press the Home button.
- Tap Emergency.
- Finally, on the Emergency call screen, you can make a call or tap Medical ID to see emergency medical information stored on the device.
Furthermore, if your iPhone isn’t able to run iOS 8, or if you have another brand of smartphone, consider adding ICE contacts to your phone’s “favourites” list. ICE stands for in case of emergency and means that people know who to call if you are in an accident. Or use a lock screen wallpaper image to display your important medical info.
